Good afternoon!!
Welcome to the 2026-2027 Soddy-Daisy HS Band!! We are super excited about this season and are looking forward to getting started. I wanted to put out a few reminders and a few things to do before we get to actual band camp so please read all the way through this email. There is a lot of important information that will be included. 1. Guard and Percussion Camps start on Monday, July 6th. Please enter through the outside door to the band room. Please make sure that students are not dropped off at the band room door. Please park in the ROTC/GYM Parking lot for student drop-off and pickup. 2. Guard and Percussion camp is Monday, July 6th - Thursday, July 9th from 9am-5pm with a 1 hour lunch break from 12pm-1pm where students are allowed to leave campus for lunch. Students may choose to bring their lunch, but lunch will not be provided during this week. Please make sure that you are dropping your student off and picking up your student in the ROTC/GYM Parking Lot. Do not drop off at the band room door as dropping off here causes traffic backup and that is an active road. Soddy-Daisy Police monitor and will ticket and tow. 3. While we encourage you to support your child, we want to remind everyone that we have a closed door rehearsal policy. What this means is that we ask that if you wish to come watch rehearsal, that you come the last 30 minutes of the rehearsal. Most of the time, this is where the wrap-up of the things learned that day occur and you get to see run-throughs of the parts the students have been working on for the day. Having parents around during the rehearsal usually means that we lose student focus on the staff members leading the rehearsal, this is why we encourage you to come at the end. If you do come to watch a rehearsal, please remember that you are to sit or stand away from your student and try to keep talking and disruptions down to a minimum. We understand there will be several parents volunteering during the weeks of band camp for a wide variety of jobs, but we ask that you try to maintain this policy throughout the school year. Also, if you decide to come to the end of a marching band rehearsal and watch from the sideline, we ask that you park in the student parking lot below the practice field and walk up the hill to the field. It gets a little dangerous and hard to get the trailer down the hill when football is ending practice, little league football is showing up for practice, there is a softball game going on, baseball is practicing, etc. Reducing the number of cars in the upper lot will help in this matter. 4. Volunteer sign-ups for band camp food prep, uniform fitting help, and other activities will be going up on the website very soon. Please make sure that you sign-up to help out with these things as they are essential to the success of our program during our camps. If you have questions about volunteering, please reach out to the band boosters as they will be happy to find somewhere that you can contribute. 5. Our Mandatory Drop-In for all students is on Sunday, July 12th, 2026 from 1pm-3pm. This is the time when you can stop in and submit all forms that are required (we will have a notary on site but encourage you to have these already filled out prior to arriving) and you can pay band fees, pay for lunch for band camp, sign up for volunteer positions, and more. All forms can be found on the band website or by clicking the following link. https://www.sdhsband.org/band-forms.html. Please remember to bring your insurance card or a copy of it so that we can attach it to the health form. We can make copies on site. Please remember that all students are required to have all forms submitted BEFORE they will be allowed to participate in any trip (football game, field trip, etc) with the band program. 6. Band Fees can be paid by check, cash, or by credit card through our square account. Credit Card Payments will require there to be a Processing Fee added to the transaction. Band Fees are $450 through July 31st. After July 31st, they will go up to $500. We do offer payment plans and multiple student discounts. Everyone is asked to pay at least $100 before July 31st. Remember that band fee payments are non-refundable. 7. Full Band Camp runs 2 weeks. Week 1 is July 13-16. Monday and Wednesday are from 9am-5pm. Tuesday and Thursday are from 9am-9pm. Week 2 is July 20-23. Monday and Tuesday are from 9am-9pm. Wednesday is from 9am-5pm. Thursday is from 9am-4pm and then students will return at 6pm for the parent show that will take place at 7pm in the stadium. During band camp, lunch is from 12:00pm-1pm and students are NOT allowed to leave campus for lunch. Students can purchase lunch from the band boosters or they may bring their own lunch. Usually, the food served is hamburgers and hotdogs on Monday and Wednesday with chips, fruit, and drink. On Tuesday and Thursday it is usually pizza, chips, fruit, and drink. This is subject to change. Dinner on the long days is from 4-6pm and students are highly encouraged to leave campus (go home, eat dinner, take a shower, jump in a pool, take a nap, whatever they need to do). Dinner during band camp will NOT be provided. 8. All Students should have the following things ready for band camp: tennis shoes, light colored lightweight clothing, a change of clothes in case it rains, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a water jug, bug spray. **Wind and Percussion Students should have the following as well: 3 Ring Binder, Full Sheet Page Protectors, Flip Folder, Flip Folder Lyre for their instrument, mouthpiece, reeds, sticks, valve oil, slide grease, Dot Marker (may be provided by your section leader, poker chips that are different colors work great) **Guard Students should have the following as well: Belt Pack (we called them Fannie Packs when I was a teenager), electrical tape (white and black), Dot Marker (may be provided by your section leader, see above) 9. Students will be assigned a locker for their instrument once school starts, but not until. Students may put their instrument in the floor of the instrument storage room or upperclassmen may use their locker from last year if they remember the combination, but that is not necessarily the locker they will have for the school year. 10. If you wish to chaperone for the band for the school year, please fill out the Paperwork that is located on the band webpage underneath the Background Check and Volunteer Forms section on the front page of the website. All chaperone paperwork and background checks must be completed at least 2 weeks before the date you are wishing to chaperone. EVERYONE must fill out Volunteer Paperwork every year, yet you only have to do a background check every 3 years.
11. Our band booster meetings occur usually on the first Monday of every other month at 7pm in the band room. Our executive board meets at 6pm before the full booster meeting at 7pm. Please make efforts to attend these to find out all of the latest information going on in the band program. Please check the calendar on the band website for exact dates of band booster general meetings. 12. It's hot in July! Our students need to start now getting used to the heat, learning to drink water, getting up early and getting used to eating breakfast. We want your student to be able to be successful and the more ready they are for this, the better off they will be. 13. Again, please remember, DO NOT DROP OFF AT THE BAND ROOM STOP SIGN!! YOU WILL BE TICKETED!! All of the parking spots along the band room are reserved for staff and volunteers. 14. If you are getting these emails and your child has decided not to participate in the SDHS Band, please respond to this email so we can remove you from the mailing list. We are excited to start the new school year and hope for a much more normal season than the one we just experienced. If you have any questions, I can be reached by email [email protected]. Thank you for allowing your child to participate in the band program at Soddy-Daisy HS! We are sure it will be a rewarding experience for them and one they will never forget!!
