Band Week 1 Update

8/19/2026

Good morning!

First big update of the season!  Here we go!

1.  Rehearsal will be in the stadium on Thursday.  We will start after the football team is finished.  We will start rehearsal in the band room and practice everything that we do for a Friday Night..
2.  Snap Raise fundraiser is coming to a close on Saturday.  Please encourage your students to log in and make sure they have 20 emails that are in the system.  We have several who haven’t.  We don’t want to give the company more of our money raised than we have to.  Please take the time to have both your student and you share it on your social media pages.  We are very close to meeting our goal of $20000.

2.  Students will received the Band Show Shirt Order Forms on Monday.  The order form is also on the band website.  The show shirts are $18 for sizes S-XL and $20 for 2-3X.  Please make sure you fill out the order form completely and turn it in with your order.  All checks will be payable to Soddy-Daisy HS Band Boosters.  Students will turn in order forms to the payment box in the band room.  Orders will be filled as they come in.  NO ONLINE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

3.  In the near future, you will get a text message from a program called CutTime.  This is the band’s accounting software.  You will be able to log in and review all payments and charges to your student’s account.  Please do so and let me know if you have any issues or concerns.  It is possible I missed a payment, so please send me an email if there is an issue and we will get it worked out.

4.  Online Marching Band Fee Payments MUST BE MADE THROUGH THE BAND WEBSITE (Givebacks).  The Cuttime software is something the band uses and is not affiliated with the district.  Your Cuttime account will say that Online Payments are disabled.  They are not, you just have to go through the band webpage or the Soddy Daisy HS Givebacks site to make them.

5.  If you decide to pay online through Givebacks, please understand that I do not get any notifications that you have done so.  I have to request a copy of all transactions that are posted to the account monthly.  I try to do this at the end of every month.  You will receive a message, either through text or email, that will be your student’s account statement on the 1st of every month if you have an outstanding balance.  You can edit any preferences in the Cuttime program on how you wish to receive it and update any information that isn’t correct.

6.  Marching Shoes and Gloves have been ordered for the season.  Students who are new or needed new marching shoes will be given those once they arrive.  The cost of these shoes is $50.  You will see this charge on your account if your student ordered shoes.  Gloves are provided by the band boosters each year as part of your band fee and each student will be given a new pair before the first Home Game where we wear uniforms.

7.  Chaperone signups are available on the band website and have been sent out through email.  Please see the Signup Genius on the band website to sign up to chaperone.  Please make sure that you have filled out all appropriate paperwork through Ham. Co. Schools before signing up to chaperone.

8.  Concessions signups for the first home football game went out via email and are posted on the band website under the Booster Info Tab.  Please make sure to check what night your student’s section is supposed to work.  It takes a small army of people to run our concession stand.  It is also one of our most successful fundraisers for the year.   Please do your part and help us make sure that Carlye has plenty of help this year for our concession stand.  She does a great job!!

9.  FIRST FOOTBALL GAME IS THIS FRIDAY!!!  The Men of Troy battle White Co. on Friday Night at 8pm.  Dress for students for the game is their Summer Uniform (Band Show Shirt, Black Shorts, Black Socks, Tennis Shoes).  Call time for the game will be at 6:00pm.  This is the only game with this late a kickoff as the team is coming from Central Time Zone. The band will line up to march to the stadium at 7:15pm.  We will play the National Anthem at 7:45pm and the game will start at 8:00pm.  Just a reminder, no outside members are allowed inside the band section during the game.  This includes parents and siblings.  Students are not allowed to eat during the game unless directed to do so by the band director.  Students will be provided a water after pregame is over and then again after halftime.  Students are allowed to request additional waters if needed during the game.  Please do not provide your student with drinks from the concession stand or other outside places during the game unless you would like to provide these for the entire band program.

10.  Just a reminder for students, we do not allow students to go anywhere in our stadium or other stadiums by themselves.  They must always have a buddy.  This is for the protection of your child.  Please help us in making sure your student remains safe by making sure they uphold this policy.

11.  After the game is over, students will line up and march back to the band room.  This is to make sure we get all of the students to the band room at the same time, makes sure all students are accounted for, and gives the staff the opportunity to talk to our students about important information before releasing them for the weekend.  We ask that parents wait outside the band room until after students are released from this meeting.  Parents may enter the band room once the doors are reopened as the students are hanging their uniforms up.  All students must be released by their section leaders before they are allowed to leave for the evening.  The section leaders must check their uniforms and make sure they are all accounted for and hung up correctly.  Any student who leaves before the section leader gives their ok to leave will result in their entire section having to wait until all of the band’s uniforms are checked at the next ballgame before leaving.

12.  COME OUT AND SUPPORT YOUR STUDENT FRIDAY NIGHT!!!  These kids have worked incredibly hard to be able to learn a show, multiple pieces of music to play in the stands, and want to be able to show off their talents to you and the community.  Please come out and cheer them on as well as the other students who will be at the football games each Friday night.  The football team, cheerleaders, and band program make up a unique team of students who provide the fun and pageantry that make Friday Night Football what it currently is in our country.  Please know that your students and all students, want you there and want you to support them and their endeavors.  Show your support for the hard work they put in.  It creates a strong community atmosphere and gives our teams, students, and coaches the ability to have the one thing that every school, team, and community want during a sports season…….HOMEFIELD ADVANTAGE!  We have the best kids, the best stadium, and we need you to help make this year, the best atmosphere in HS Football!  Come out and join us!

Just a reminder, it takes ALL OF US, ALL THE TIME, Trusting the Process, to Make It Better!!  Come be a part of the Trojan Nation!!

Snap Raise Fundraiser

7/19/2026

Parents of the Trojan Band,

Our first week of band camp has came and gone and we are super thrilled with our progress thus far.

Thursday, we introduced our first fundraiser of the year to the kids.  This is called SnapRaise.  SnapRaise has helped the band purchase some of our large ticket items over the last few years.  Each student in the band program benefits from the purchases that have been made from this fundraiser in a large way.

Items purchased from the SnapRaise fundraiser include:
  • The New Marching Band Uniforms ($75,000) - 2018-2020
  • The New Sound System ($15,000) - 2021
  • The New Marching Drumline ($15,000) - 2022
  • 3 New Concert Tubas (13,000) - 2023
  • 2 Vibraphone, 1 Marimba, 1 Glockenspiel, Xylophone (14,000) - 2024
  • 3 New Concert Tubas, 1 Marimba  (17,000) - 2025

The band program utilizes this fundraiser to purchase our large ticket items that are in desperate need of replacement.  SnapRaise has been our go to fundraiser to help with these large projects and we are hoping to continue to be able to use it to help update the equipment for the students in the band program.  Please help us by having your child complete the tasks below.  If you have any questions, our SnapRaise Representative will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.  His name is Andy Winters.  You may contact him after you read the following information from SnapRaise if you have any further questions.

Our campaign will not launch until we receive 80% participation from students.  This means that 80% of the band program has entered their emails into the system.  Please help us by helping your student get 20 emails into the system before Thursday, July 23rd.  Our program is scheduled to launch on July 24th, the day after the Parent Preview Show.  As an incentive for the kids to get their emails entered into the system, if we have 80% entered by Thursday, I will cancel the full band rehearsals that are on the band calendar for July 28th and July 30th from 6-9pm.

We trust SnapRaise as it does not sell information to other vendors, has been verified by Hamilton County Schools as the first secure crowdsourcing fundraiser approved for use by the district, will not spam email addresses that are entered (each email address will receive 4 emails only during the course of the campaign and only 1 after a donation is made), and our representatives work hard to make sure that our donors feel safe in the donation process.

Please take time to read the email information below from SnapRaise!!

Hi Soddy Daisy Trojan Band Parents and supporters!

We're kicking off our fundraiser with Snap! Raise, the nation's leading fundraising platform for groups, clubs and teams. For the past five years, Snap! Raise has helped more than 35,000 groups in the U.S. raise more than $400M in funding! I'm excited to get started and have one vital request.

I ask that you help your student identify at least 20 people they will reach out to via Snap! Raise, and gather their email address prior to our program launch on July 28th..

The list of 20 people should include many of your child's biggest fans and needs to be completed in full to ensure our campaign is set up for success. It is my hope and expectation that each student will have a major impact on our program. Here are the next steps:

  • Help your student select at least 20 potential supporters
  • Enter their names and correct email into your student’s SnapRaise Account.
  • Avoid using emails of teachers, peers of your students, or strangers

Here are 20 examples of people your student should consider adding at a minimum.
    1. Parent(s)/Guardian #1
    2. Parent(s)/Guardian #2
    3. Grandma
    4. Grandpa
    5. Cousin(s)
    6. Uncle(s)
    7. Auntie(s)
    8. Family doctor
    9. Orthodontist/dentist
    10. Church/Social leader
    11. Scout/troop leader
    12. Family friend #1
    13. Family friend #2
    14. Former coach
    15. School alumni
    16. Local businesses that know you
    17. Neighbor(s)
    18. Parent co-worker(s)
    19. Friend of parent
    20. Adult sibling(s)
Thank you for all of your continued support of our program!

  • All about Safety and Security
Snap! Raise takes data security seriously and protecting your information is our highest priority. While we can't speak for the other guys, we comply with all federal guidelines and regulations to ensure that you, your donors, and your organization is protected from fraud and fund mismanagement. This is why before any campaign begins, we require KYC to guarantee financial transparency and security. So what does that all mean exactly?

  • KYC, the CDD Rule, and You
Let's start with KYC or Know Your Customer. KYC is a federally mandated regulation under the Customer Due Diligence Rule (CDD) and Customer Identification Program (CIP) that requires all U.S. banks to gather information to verify that you—the group leader or coach—are authorized to fundraise for your affiliated organization. This identity confirmation is necessary to prevent fraudulent fundraising. By following KYC, U.S. banks can safely create a secure, temporary bank account--also known as a Merchant Account--so that you or your organization can clearly and easily track, monitor, and control your donations straight from the source.

That was a lot of information. Let's break it down.
Requiring KYC allows both the government and Snap! Raise to guarantee financial transparency and security once we are able to confirm that you are authorized to fundraise on behalf of your organization. This means:

26/27 Band Camp Information

7/4/2026

Good afternoon!!

Welcome to the 2026-2027 Soddy-Daisy HS Band!!  We are super excited about this season and are looking forward to getting started.  I wanted to put out a few reminders and a few things to do before we get to actual band camp so please read all the way through this email.  There is a lot of important information that will be included.

1.  Guard and Percussion Camps start on Monday, July 6th.  Please enter through the outside door to the band room.  Please make sure that students are not dropped off at the band room door.  Please park in the ROTC/GYM Parking lot for student drop-off and pickup.

2.  Guard and Percussion camp is Monday, July 6th - Thursday, July 9th from 9am-5pm with a 1 hour lunch break from 12pm-1pm where students are allowed to leave campus for lunch.  Students may choose to bring their lunch, but lunch will not be provided during this week.  Please make sure that you are dropping your student off and picking up your student in the ROTC/GYM Parking Lot.  Do not drop off at the band room door as dropping off here causes traffic backup and that is an active road.  Soddy-Daisy Police monitor and will ticket and tow.

3.  While we encourage you to support your child, we want to remind everyone that we have a closed door rehearsal policy.  What this means is that we ask that if you wish to come watch rehearsal, that you come the last 30 minutes of the rehearsal.  Most of the time, this is where the wrap-up of the things learned that day occur and you get to see run-throughs of the parts the students have been working on for the day.  Having parents around during the rehearsal usually means that we lose student focus on the staff members leading the rehearsal, this is why we encourage you to come at the end.  If you do come to watch a rehearsal, please remember that you are to sit or stand away from your student and try to keep talking and disruptions down to a minimum.  We understand there will be several parents volunteering during the weeks of band camp for a wide variety of jobs, but we ask that you try to maintain this policy throughout the school year.  Also, if you decide to come to the end of a marching band rehearsal and watch from the sideline, we ask that you park in the student parking lot below the practice field and walk up the hill to the field.  It gets a little dangerous and hard to get the trailer down the hill when football is ending practice, little league football is showing up for practice, there is a softball game going on, baseball is practicing, etc.  Reducing the number of cars in the upper lot will help in this matter.

4.  Volunteer sign-ups for band camp food prep, uniform fitting help, and other activities will be going up on the website very soon.  Please make sure that you sign-up to help out with these things as they are essential to the success of our program during our camps.  If you have questions about volunteering, please reach out to the band boosters as they will be happy to find somewhere that you can contribute.

5.  Our Mandatory Drop-In for all students is on Sunday, July 12th, 2026 from 1pm-3pm.  This is the time when you can stop in and submit all forms that are required (we will have a notary on site but encourage you to have these already filled out prior to arriving) and you can pay band fees, pay for lunch for band camp, sign up for volunteer positions, and more.  All forms can be found on the band website or by clicking the following link.  https://www.sdhsband.org/band-forms.html.  Please remember to bring your insurance card or a copy of it so that we can attach it to the health form.  We can make copies on site.  Please remember that all students are required to have all forms submitted BEFORE they will be allowed to participate in any trip (football game, field trip, etc) with the band program.

6.  Band Fees can be paid by check, cash, or by credit card through our square account.  Credit Card Payments will require there to be a Processing Fee added to the transaction.  Band Fees are $450 through July 31st.  After July 31st, they will go up to $500.  We do offer payment plans and multiple student discounts.  Everyone is asked to pay at least $100 before July 31st.  Remember that band fee payments are non-refundable.

7.  Full Band Camp runs 2 weeks.  Week 1 is July 13-16.  Monday and Wednesday are from 9am-5pm.  Tuesday and Thursday are from 9am-9pm.  Week 2 is July 20-23.  Monday and Tuesday are from 9am-9pm.  Wednesday is from 9am-5pm.  Thursday is from 9am-4pm and then students will return at 6pm for the parent show that will take place at 7pm in the stadium.  During band camp, lunch is from 12:00pm-1pm and students are NOT allowed to leave campus for lunch.  Students can purchase lunch from the band boosters or they may bring their own lunch.  Usually, the food served is hamburgers and hotdogs on Monday and Wednesday with chips, fruit, and drink.  On Tuesday and Thursday it is usually pizza, chips, fruit, and drink.  This is subject to change.  Dinner on the long days is from 4-6pm and students are highly encouraged to leave campus (go home, eat dinner, take a shower, jump in a pool, take a nap, whatever they need to do).  Dinner during band camp will NOT be provided.

8.  All Students should have the following things ready for band camp:
tennis shoes, light colored lightweight clothing, a change of clothes in case it rains, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a water jug, bug spray.
**Wind and Percussion Students should have the following as well:  3 Ring Binder, Full Sheet Page Protectors, Flip Folder, Flip Folder Lyre for their instrument, mouthpiece, reeds, sticks, valve oil, slide grease, Dot Marker (may be provided by your section leader, poker chips that are different colors work great)
**Guard Students should have the following as well:  Belt Pack (we called them Fannie Packs when I was a teenager), electrical tape (white and black), Dot Marker (may be provided by your section leader, see above)

9.  Students will be assigned a locker for their instrument once school starts, but not until.  Students may put their instrument in the floor of the instrument storage room or upperclassmen may use their locker from last year if they remember the combination, but that is not necessarily the locker they will have for the school year.

10.  If you wish to chaperone for the band for the school year, please fill out the Paperwork that is located on the band webpage underneath the Background Check and Volunteer Forms section on the front page of the website.  All chaperone paperwork and background checks must be completed at least 2 weeks before the date you are wishing to chaperone.  EVERYONE must fill out Volunteer Paperwork every year, yet you only have to do a background check every 3 years.
  • If you are new to the program, you must complete a background check before we can allow you to chaperone.  Instructions for signing up for a background check through Identigo are on the front page of the band website.  (Do NOT sign up for the Hickory Valley Location, Central Office is not currently conducting background checks.)  Once completed, please fill out the Volunteer Request Form and the Waiver Form and submit those to Mr. Light.  You will be contacted if there is a problem with your background check and you are not eligible to chaperone.  Please make sure to hold on to all receipts and emails from your background check.  It is the only way to prove you had it done.
  • If you are a previous Chaperone and have completed a background check before, please fill out both the waiver and the volunteer paperwork and submit these to Mr. Light.  He will inform you if the time has come for your background check to be renewed.

11.  Our band booster meetings occur usually on the first Monday of every other month at 7pm in the band room.  Our executive board meets at 6pm before the full booster meeting at 7pm.  Please make efforts to attend these to find out all of the latest information going on in the band program.  Please check the calendar on the band website for exact dates of band booster general meetings.

12.  It's hot in July!  Our students need to start now getting used to the heat, learning to drink water, getting up early and getting used to eating breakfast. We want your student to be able to be successful and the more ready they are for this, the better off they will be.

13.  Again, please remember, DO NOT DROP OFF AT THE BAND ROOM STOP SIGN!!  YOU WILL BE TICKETED!!  All of the parking spots along the band room are reserved for staff and volunteers.

14.  If you are getting these emails and your child has decided not to participate in the SDHS Band, please respond to this email so we can remove you from the mailing list.

We are excited to start the new school year and hope for a much more normal season than the one we just experienced.  If you have any questions, I can be reached by email [email protected].  Thank you for allowing your child to participate in the band program at Soddy-Daisy HS!  We are sure it will be a rewarding experience for them and one they will never forget!!

Go Trojans!!!
