Listed below are some of the major responsibilities of being a Soddy Daisy Band Booster member. Other Volunteer needs arise during the year.
Please direct questions to a board member
Band Camp
- The Directors prefer to have two or more parents present at all times to help with assorted activities or problems that arise. These volunteers work in approximately three hour shifts and do whatever is needed. Tasks include filling water coolers, attend to students who do not feel well, ice down overheated students, apply band-aids, answer questions and assist band directors and band staff.
- Several parents are needed to operate the Concession Stand in the new gym to prepare and serve food to the students. This usually includes arriving in the morning before Camp starts to put up tables and chairs and to prepare food.
Chaperones
Adult Chaperones are needed for every Band trip, including Away games and Competitions. All Chaperones must complete a background check and be approved through Hamilton County Schools. Any adult who will be alone at any time with students at a band function is considered a chaperone and must complete a background check. This is per Hamilton County School Board Policy passed in 2016. See the Parent Handbook for more Chaperone Guidelines and "Background Check" from the "INFO" tab above. Concession Stand
- Each student is required to have a representative work for them in Concessions for at least one Varsity Home Game during Football Season. Home Game Concession duty dates are assigned according to Band Section and the schedule is released at the beginning of the School Year. Help is also needed prior to the Home Games with Food Prep and assembly.
Equipment Crew
The equipment crew is responsible for building props, transporting and protecting the equipment, instruments and all support items needed for all performances and competitions. Adult volunteers are needed to assist the Director and Students. Each Band member is responsible for loading and unloading the Band trailer.
Silent Auction
Each section and Guard fill a Themed Basket which are bid on in a Silent Auction. Volunteers are needed to contact area businesses for donated items, fill and wrap baskets, and to donate items. The Silent Auction is held during the Band's Spring Concert.
Trojan Marching Invitational
Air Grams – Air gram sellers work the Air Grams table by selling personal quotes from parents, students and friends to performers that will be announced during the bands’ set-up and break down times. Runners will take these up to the announcer in the press box.
Registration – Volunteers will assist US Bands rep in making sure each band has their packets, get signed in and whatever else is needed to get them ready to go. These people will need to be there until all bands have checked in.
Ticket sales – Ticket sellers are stationed at specific entrances and help US Band representatives with band check-ins upon their arrival.
Band Liaisons – Liaisons accompany and guide the bands from check-in to warm ups, then on to their contest performance and back to their loading area. Problem solving is a must in some cases!
Announcer assistant – The announcer and his assistant will sit in the box and assist in whatever he needs help with. This person will need to be there all day.
Food donations – Need breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks.
Runner – Runners simply take materials from the field judges and transport then to US Band reps in the press box. Runners also take air grams from the air gram sales table to the announcer in the press box.
Anywhere needed committee – This is a floating committee. Members are willing to go and do anything that is needed. We will need to give breaks to everyone to make sure they have eaten, etc. Equipment lot will need a lot of hands to ensure people follow directions. Basically anything extra that is needed for the day.
Program sales – Program sellers are stationed at most entrances in the stadium. A couple of positions are also inside the stadium during intermissions between band performances.
Hospitality – Volunteers will help to set up, maintain, bread down and clean up the break room that we are given to feed our volunteers during the day.

Uniforms
Uniform fittings occur during Band Camp each year. Volunteers assist the Uniform Coordinator in fitting students, recording uniform number data, fit students for shoe sizes, hem pants and sleeves, and assist students in storing uniforms in the correct way and location. The Uniform Coordinator along with volunteers make sure that the uniforms are laundered and stay in pristine condition. Volunteers are also needed to provide routine maintenance such as sewing buttons, making minor repairs, and periodic cleaning.
