Drum Major Auditions
Auditions for 2024-2025 Drum Major will be a mini camp May 13 and May 14th from 2:30-3:30pm and then auditions will be held on May 17th afterschool starting at 2:30pm. Auditions are always judged by band directors or music professionals from outside Soddy Daisy HS. All students auditioning will need to wear Khaki Shorts and their Band Shirt for audition videos. Auditions will include all of the things listed below.
Salute: Students will come up with their own salute for the audition process.
Patterns: You should show examples of you conducting the patterns at the tempos provided. BPM (beats per minute)
4/4 pattern - 120 bpm
3/4 pattern - 80 bpm
2/4 pattern - 160 bpm
**Each pattern should have a minumum of 8 times through the pattern and should end with a cut-off.
Student Choice Audition Music: You will need to pick a piece of music of your own that you would like to conduct to show off your conducting ability. The piece must be of a marching band or a drum corps and can be of any style you choose. This is to be able to show off your skills as a conductor. You must tell us the piece of music you are using, then record yourself conducting the music as it plays. We must be able to hear the music on the video as we watch you conduct.
Directors Choice Audition Music: You will need to download the audition music MP3 and score below. All candidates are required to conduct the piece of music on this page. The music and score can be downloaded from the links below! To save onto your computer, right click and click "Save As". You are to tell us that you are conducting the directors choice piece and then record yourself conducting the music as it plays. We must be able to hear the music on the video we watch you conduct.

Interview: You will be required to participate in an interview with the band staff.

Students must be members of the Soddy Daisy High School Band Program and must have marched for at least one year in order to be eligible to tryout. Students must have be members of both the Marching and Concert Band in order to audition. All students selected or chosen will be held to a higher standard of personal conduct and will be called upon for help in teaching the marching band, organizing and running rehearsals, helping with everyday tasks in the band room and rehearsal areas, and maintaining a positive attitude both in rehearsal and out.
